ABSTRACT
This randomized experimental investigation examined the effects of a structured Nine-Center Meditation programme on mobile phone addiction among school students. The investigators hypothesized that consistent participation in Nine-Center Meditation would result in significant reductions in problematic mobile phone usage and enhancements in self-regulation-related measures. A total of 30 school students were randomly assigned to two groups: an experimental group (n = 15), which underwent Nine-Center Meditation training, and a control group (n = 15), which continued with active rest without practicing meditation. The intervention comprised supervised sessions of selected meditation practices, breathing techniques, awareness exercises, and relaxation methods conducted five days per week. Assessments of mobile phone addiction, daily phone usage frequency, self-control, mindfulness, stress levels, and sleep disturbances were obtained before and after the 12-week intervention period. The collected data were statistically evaluated using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), with the level of significance established at 0.05. The results indicated that participants in the meditation group showed significant improvement in mobile phone addiction when compared with the control group. Specifically, addiction scores declined, whereas self-control and mindfulness scores improved, together with favorable reductions in daily screen time and stress-related measures. No intervention-related adverse events were reported throughout the study. The findings confirmed the research hypothesis, suggesting that Nine-Center Meditation can positively affect behavioral regulation among school students. The study concluded that Nine-Center Meditation may serve as an effective complementary intervention for enhancing digital self-control in this population; however, further investigations with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up durations are recommended.
