Abstract

EFFECT OF COUNSELING WITH THE MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEW METHOD ON DENTAL AND ORAL HEALTH STATUS OF TEENAGERS IN GORONTALO CITY

ABSTRACT

Dental and oral hygiene in teenagers remain sone of the heal this suesthatrequirespecialattention. One oftheeffortsmadetoimprove dental and oral health status istheMotivationalInterview (MI) counselingmethod. This study aimedtoanalyzetheinfluenceofcounselingwiththemotivationalinterview (MI) methodonthe dental and oral health status ofteenagers in the Gorontalo City area. Thisquasi-experimentalresearchused a pretest-posttestcontrolgroupdesign, where 20 teenagers were giventhe MI interventionand 20 othersamples were placed inthecontrolgroup. The data found were analyzedusinganindependent t-testtodeterminethe OHI-S valuesbeforeandaftertheintervention. Base dontheanalysis, the OHI-S status ofteenagersbefore MI intervention had a Meanvalueof 3.842 andexperienced a significantdecreaseafter MI wasgiven. Conclusion: MotivationalInterviewiseffective in reducingthe status of OHI-S in teenagers in Gorontalo City.
